Train operator Southern has been shortlisted for five Association of Community Rail Partnership (ACoRP) awards for their work with local communities on the Southern Network.

The Community Rail Awards were devised in 2005 so that the unsung heroes and heroines of the community rail world would have their hard work and dedication publicly recognised and rewarded.

With an emphasis on rewarding excellence and promoting best practice in community rail development, and recognising ordinary people doing extraordinary things on behalf of the railway and the community.

Southern has been nominated for five of these prestigious awards in the following categories:

  • Best Station Adoption
  • Involving Young People
  • Local Transport Integration
  • Best Station Retail Outlet
  • Outstanding Teamwork Award.

Sarah Evans, Southern’s CSR and Partnerships Manager said:

“We’ve worked very hard this year in partnership with our local communities and we’ve also been involving our younger audience more with a great music video project.

“To be shortlisted in so many categories is testament to the hard work put in by everyone who has contributed.”

The ACoRP award ceremony takes place on 23rd September 2011 at Sheffield City Hall Ballroom.
