Listen to this article

Union Pacific Railroad will continue improving the transportation infrastructure in Minnesota and Wisconsin with more than $7 million in investment to enhance the rail line that runs from St. Paul, Minnesota, to Hudson, Wisconsin.

The nearly 24-mile project includes removing and installing rail and more than 40,000 ties as well as renewing the surfaces at 26 road crossings.

Crews will also spread 12,850 tons of rock ballast to help provide a more stable roadbed.

Union Pacific plans to invest approximately $3.3 billion in capital during 2011, which supports America’s current and future freight transportation needs and enhances the safety and efficiency of the railroad’s 32,000-mile network.
