Ansaldo STS wins contract for new Milan Metro Line 4

The temporary consortium including Ansaldo STS has been provisionally awarded the tender launched by the Municipality of Milan for the selection of a private partner to build Line 4 of the Milan Metro.

The temporary consortium was the best bidder both in the technical valuation and economic offer.

The value of the contract for the Ansaldo STS is around €255 million.

The consortium, which will also manage the line for approximately 24 years following its construction, comprises of Impregilo (leading bidder), Astaldi, Ansaldo STS, AnsaldoBreda, Sirti and ATM.

The scope of work for Ansaldo STS comprises the design and construction of the following equipment:

  • Signalling and automation
  • Electric power supply
  • Ticketing and passenger access control
  • Communication with the trains (TETRA and WI-FI) and on-board train communication systems
  • Maintenance equipment
  • SCADA
  • Platform-edge doors

Line 4 will connect Linate Airport to San Cristoforo railway station, with a total length of approximately 15 km, 21 stations and a depot/workshop, and will use the completely driverless CBTC technology of the Finmeccanica Group.
