Union Pacific invests a further $29m in rail improvements

Listen to this article

Union Pacific Railroad will continue improving Missouri’s transportation infrastructure with a nearly $29 million investment to enhance the rail line that runs from St. Louis to near Morrison.

More than 52 miles of new rail will be installed, the surfaces at 54 road crossings will be replaced and more than one mile of rail in various curves will be upgraded.

Crews will also replace five switches – the devices that move a train from one track to another.

Union Pacific plans to spend approximately $3.2 billion in 2011 to support America’s current and future freight transportation needs and enhance the safety and efficiency of the railroad’s 32,000-mile network.
