Planning applications for stations at East Linton and Reston

Listen to this article

Network Rail has applied for permission to build two more new stations in Scotland.

A new station at East Linton, in East Lothian on the line between Edinburgh and Berwick/Newcastle, will help facilitate growth and address capacity issues in the area and assist regeneration, long term sustainability and accessibility issues.

The proposal is to build two platforms, waiting shelters, installing lifts, footbridge and access points. There will also be parking spaces for 126 cars, of which 18 will be electric car charging points.

The new station will replace one that closed in 1964 as a result of the Beeching report.

Further south, a similar station is proposed for Reston in Berwickshire, on the Scottish Borders, which suffered a similar fate in 1964.

Reopening both stations as part of the local Berwick service formed part of the commitments made by Abellio ScotRail on taking over the franchise in 2015.
