Trainline and THINK! campaign encourage safe travel by train this festive party season

To encourage the public to plan ahead and book a train home as the safe travel option over the festive period, Trainline has combined with Government road safety campaign THINK! to launch a targeted advertising campaign including out-of-home adverts and advertising on the Trainline app.

For many, the festive season is a time of celebration, with the average Brit attending at least eight social events in December, and 39% staying out later than they usually would at festive get-togethers. And with this seasonal cheer comes Christmas beers, as new polling data shows over half of Brits (57%) increase their alcohol intake in December, and almost one third (29%) notice their friends, family and colleagues drinking more too.

The advertising campaign will reach party-goers in 14 cities across the UK, including additional targeted advertising in the East Midlands and Wales, where Department for Transport data shows a higher rate of alcohol-related casualties.*

Pete Wade, Chief Commercial Officer, from Trainline said: “Our goal with this campaign in partnership with Think!, is to remind those out celebrating this festive season to get ahead and plan their travel. That’s why we make booking train travel as quick and easy as possible, so you can soon relax and focus on enjoying the festivities safe in the knowledge that your journey home is sorted.”

Lilian Greenwood MP, Minister for the Future of Roads said: “The festive season is a time to celebrate, but it’s also a time to stay safe. Around 18% of all road deaths involve drink driving.  This is why we are proud to join forces with Trainline to urge people to make safe choices this festive season. By planning ahead and using public transport, we can all enjoy the festivities while keeping our roads safe for everyone.”

While many revellers expect to drink alcohol at festive events, December is also the month when four in ten Brits (38%) say they are most likely to have a spontaneous alcoholic beverage.

With even a little alcohol carrying the risk of pushing people over the limit, opting to get behind the wheel instead of hopping on a train can be a dangerous decision, with around 18% of all road deaths involving drink driving.

The ‘Hop on a Train’ adverts are timed to run from 2nd December as the festive party season begins.
