With warnings in place for flooding, snow, and ice across much of the UK, rail travel has been disrupted throughout Monday 6 January.
Over the weekend, the Met Office issued an amber warning for snow and freezing rain across a large part of the country and customers were advised to check before travelling today.
Disruption to services today included:
- Disruption between Nottingham and Grantham this morning which cleared by 12:00.
- Disruption between Peterborough and Leicester which is expected until 21:00
- Train lines between Warrington and Chester via Runcorn East have been closed this afternoon due to flooding.
- Between Dover Priory and Ashford International, lines have now reopened after a fallen tree blocked the line this morning.
East Midlands Railway (EMR) says heavy rain has affected several of its routes. Trains between Derby and Sheffield are running, but the line between Derby and Long Eaton is blocked by flooding. EMR does not have an estimate on when the flooding will recede to allow the lines to be safely reopened.
Affected routes include:
- Sheffield/Nottingham/London
- Newark/Nottingham/Derby/Crewe
- Matlock/Derby/Nottingham
- Liverpool Lime Street/Nottingham/Norwich
- Nottingham/Grantham/Skegness
GWR, ScotRail, and TransPennine Express services have not been impacted by the weather. However, passengers have been advised to check before travelling.
Snow in the north and rain in the south, along with the strong winds, have eased throughout the day. However, the Met Office has issued a warning for snow and ice for Wales, north-west England, and parts of south-west and central southern England from this evening at 17:00 until 10:00 tomorrow morning (Tuesday 7 January).
