Greater Anglia passengers are reminded to check before they travel over Easter as replacement buses will run on some routes due to engineering works in the Bishop’s Stortford area and on the Hertford East line.
Greater Anglia’s Stansted Express Stansted Airport to London and Cambridge to London Liverpool Street services will be affected by Network Rail works to replace track at Bishop’s Stortford throughout the Easter weekend.
From Good Friday to Easter Monday inclusive:
- A non-stop direct bus service will run between Stansted Airport and Waltham Cross, where customers will then be able to continue their journey to London by train
- A bus service will also run between Stansted Airport and Waltham Cross calling at Stansted Mountfitchet, Bishop’s Stortford, Sawbridgeworth, Harlow Mill, Harlow Town, Roydon, Broxbourne and Cheshunt
Extra staff will be on hand to make sure passengers get the right bus.
In addition, Greater Anglia is carrying out eight days of works on the Hertford East line starting on Monday 11 and continuing until Easter Monday to extend platforms at Hertford East and Ware to accommodate new longer trains.
From Monday 11 to Thursday 14 April a replacement bus service will run between Hertford East, Ware, St Margarets, Rye House and Broxbourne, where customers will be able to connect to train services.
For the Easter weekend, the Hertford East line rail replacement bus service will continue to Waltham Cross to connect with train services.
Greater Anglia passengers will also be able to use their tickets on Great Northern train services from Hertford North.
E-scooters, e-bikes and full-size bikes cannot be transported on the rail replacement buses.
Greater Anglia’s trains will still run between Cambridge North and Stansted Airport via Cambridge and between Cheshunt via Waltham Cross and London Liverpool Street.
Football fans going to watch the Tottenham Hotspur vs Brighton match on Saturday 16 April should be aware they will need to catch a bus if they are travelling from stations north of Waltham Cross.
The work at Bishop’s Stortford – which is also scheduled for weekends throughout May – is part of a wider project by Network Rail to replace 11 sets of points that allow trains to move between tracks, renew half a mile of track and complete bridge, platform and drainage improvements.
Further work will also take place on the Hertford East line, with the longer platforms expected to be complete by the autumn.
Jamie Burles, managing director for Greater Anglia, said: “The work at Bishops Stortford will help improve punctuality and reliability along this very busy line, while the work at Hertford East will enable us to run our new ten-carriage commuter trains, providing more seats for passengers along this busy line.
“We would like to thank passengers for their patience while this work is carried out. We will make sure they can complete their journey, even if part of it is by rail replacement bus.”
Ellie Burrows, Network Rail’s route director for Anglia, said: “We’re committed to improving reliability and driving down delays and cancellations for our passengers across the Anglia region. This work on the West Anglia Main Line is essential to keep the track in good condition and keep services running on time.”
Customers should check before they travel using the Greater Anglia website or app and allow more time for their journey.
