Passengers are advised that drainage improvement work will affect journeys between Derby and Chesterfield this weekend (Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 December).

Network Rail is carrying out renewal at three sites – Belper, Ogston and Clay Cross – to upgrade the reliability of the equipment and help reduce flood risk.

East Midlands Railway will have an amended timetable in place between London St Pancras and Sheffield* over the weekend.

CrossCountry journeys between Derby and the North East will take longer than usual.

On Saturday 13 December only, Northern will run an amended timetable between Nottingham and Sheffield.

Dan Matthews, Network Rail operations director, said:

“We’re carrying out essential drainage upgrades this weekend between Derby and Chesterfield to improve reliability on this key route.

“These works will help keep services running smoothly in the future, but we appreciate they will cause some disruption this weekend. We’re sorry to anyone whose journey is affected and encourage everyone to check before they travel.”

A spokesperson for the train operating companies said:

“Customers are advised to plan ahead as there will be changes to journeys because of the work between Derby and Chesterfield.

“We would like to thank our customers for their patience whilst Network Rail renews drainage at these three sites.”
