Hornsey depot plans revised

Network Rail is submitting revised plans for a second depot at Hornsey to house and maintain part of the new Thameslink route fleet of trains.

In response to concerns raised locally to the original application, the size of the proposed new depot building at Coronation Sidings, north of the existing facility, has been reduced in size.

It remains 280m long (to accommodate the congestion-busting 12-carriage trains) but the number of tracks inside (known as roads) has been reduced from six to three which reduces the width from 52m to just over 35m. By lowering the floor as much as possible, it is also over 2m lower in height, at 11.05m instead of 13.45m.

These proposals were presented to councillors and residents at a series of consultation sessions in Hornsey on 27-29 January 2011. A planning application will follow later.
