South West Trains passengers using Bournemouth’s Pokesdown for Boscombe train station are in for a surprise this week.

A dramatic 450 square metre long art mural will be revealed this week thanks to a Bournemouth Council arts initiative and the work of local urban artist, Soap (Adam Klodzinski).

Local residents were invited to submit a photograph or drawing which they felt best reflected and celebrated Boscombe to help inspire the final design.

Avonbourne School pupil, Louise Gregory submitted an image of an eye featuring a reflection of Boscombe Pier’s which was the winning image that inspired Soap’s ‘Local Past and Present’ art mural.

The entire station wall has been decorated with the new image that aims to reflect the vibrance, beauty and diversity of the local area.

It is also hoped that the new artwork will help make the station more welcoming for future visitors to the area.

Phil Dominey, Stakeholder Manager for South West Trains, said:

“We are delighted to support the work of the local artist Adam Klodzinski and to have provided the space needed to allow his imagination to unfold at Pokesdown station.

“The final design beautifully reflects the history and future of the area and we believe will leave a positive impression on South West Trains passengers but also reach for those passing through on trains”.

Councillor Ian Lancashire, Cabinet Member for Arts and Culture, said:

“This is a really fantastic community project that is set to transform the train station in Pokesdown (for Boscombe).

“It’s great that Louise’s image inspired the work and this in an exciting project which will help to improve and regenerate the area for visitors and residents alike.”
