Work on a £2.1m extension to increase car parking capacity at National Express East Anglia’s Broxbourne station has been completed with the construction of an additional deck to the car park at the station. This project is part of the company’s Service Improvement Plan to improve capacity on the East Anglia network including the introduction of 120 new carriages on Cambridge to Liverpool Street and Stansted Express services and extra car parking at key locations.

The work at Broxbourne fulfils a long-held aspiration to improve parking facilities, and will provide sufficient future capacity in-line with the expected further growth in passengers consistent with the introduction of new trains on the West Anglia route from Spring 2011.

The Mayor of Broxbourne, Councillor Mark Mills-Bishop and Councillor Stuart Pile, Executive Member for Highways & Transport, Hertfordshire County Council formally opened the improved car park at Broxbourne station today, Thursday 10 February at 11.30am.

The construction of the new car park has been carried out by C. Spencer Ltd and the additional 101 car parking spaces, increases the total capacity at Broxbourne to over 500 vehicles.

Mark Phillips, Deputy Managing Director of National Express East Anglia said: “I am pleased that work has been completed to extend and improve the car park at Broxbourne station. The additional car parking capacity will be welcomed by our customers making it easier to park at this busy station. The work at Broxbourne is another key project in our Service Improvement Plan which is helping to transform services including the introduction this year of brand new trains on our West Anglia route.”

John Slade, construction director for Spencer said: “This is a magnificent achievement – and accomplished during some very difficult winter months. This would not have been possible without the hard work and dedication of our site team, as well as an excellent working relationship with our client, National Express. I’m sure this new parking facility will make a welcome difference to all the commuters who use the station.”
