Nomad Digital is the leading provider of broadband communication solutions to the rail sector providing IP connectivity on over 2,000 vehicles, with a further 3,000 being deployed worldwide.
This week, they will be showing at Railtex with over 420 other exhibitors at Earls Court.
The company’s vision of a single communications platform supporting multiple broadband applications is shared by customers including Norway’s NSB, NS in the Netherlands and Amtrak in Canada.
Nomad’s success has been built on the deployment of solutions such as WiFi and intelligent passenger information systems which help to deliver increased passenger numbers and an improved on-train experience.
Cloud-based architecture
Railtex 2011 is the venue for Nomad to launch both a new partnership and an augmented operational service portfolio.
With EMEF, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Comboios de Portugal (CP), Nomad has announced the introduction of telemaintenance and energy efficiency solutions within its portfolio, designed to greatly reduce operational costs.
These solutions are delivered through a cloud-based architecture and provide –
- Online remote diagnostics enabling a more proactive maintenance regime and increased fleet availability.
- Direct integration with the operator’s maintenance systems enabling on-board faults to be linked directly into the workshop schedule.
- Driver analysis enabling improved driver performance and a reduction in energy or fuel consumption.
End-to-end service
These solutions have delivered a 12% improvement in fleet availability and 10% reduction in energy usage for specific CP fleets.
Nomad, with EMEF, is now taking these services to the wider market and projects are already underway with UK train operators.
Together they are able to provide a complete end-to-end service for the train operator embracing on-train system design, data analysis and rule-driven alerts, data transfer from train to shore, and integration of fault data to the workshop systems.
