Ian Levy MP visits Transmission Dynamics to explore rail technology

Ian Levy, MP for Blyth Valley, visited engineering company Transmission Dynamics in Cramlington, Northumbria to see first-hand the innovative work being done by Transmission Dynamics in remote condition monitoring and infrastructure maintenance in his constituency.

Transmission Dynamics is a multi-award-winning company, which specialises in cutting-edge industrial IoT solutions, to support truly remote condition monitoring and predictive maintenance solutions informed by machine learning and artificial intelligence.

Its “Trains with Brains®” project focuses on remote condition monitoring of overhead wires, rail track, and rolling stock with bespoke train-borne instrumentation. By utilising advanced data analytics and state-of-the-art artificial intelligence technologies, the company has developed various systems which proactively detect and address potential issues across the rail network, ensuring efficient operations and minimising disruptions for passengers.

During the visit, Ian Levy MP had the opportunity to speak with engineers and specialists in data analytics, witnessing the intricate processes involved in remote condition monitoring and infrastructure management. The discussions shed light on the significant role played by Transmission Dynamics in safeguarding the reliability and safety of rail services.

The visit was part of RIA’s Rail Fellowship Programme, which matches politicians to rail sites relevant to their brief or in their constituency and gives them a hands-on experience of what goes on in the sector day-to-day.
