Work begins on Stratford rail station

Listen to this article

Work has begun on the new Stratford-upon Avon Parkway railway station.

The chairman of Warwickshire County Council broke ground at the Bishopton site earlier this week to mark the first stage of the construction project.

The station is set to open in May 2013 – seven months ahead of schedule.

Buckingham Group has been appointed as the contractor.

Work on the platforms will begin next month before a steel footbridge is installed at the start of next year.

Councillor Peter Butlin, Warwickshire County Council’s representative for transport, said: “We are thrilled that construction is starting on site ahead of schedule and the new station we have been working hard to deliver behind the scenes will begin to become a reality for many thousands of passengers in the Stratford area.”
