HS2 Ltd, the company delivering Britain’s new high speed railway, has today (5 March 2025) started the search for talented individuals to join its 2025 graduate programme.
The opportunity will be extended to 30 graduates in a range of disciplines – allowing them to join the UK’s biggest transport infrastructure project and play a role in shaping the future of rail.
Digital engineering graduates will be given the chance to join the teams building the stations, bridges and viaducts along the route of the new railway. There will be further opportunities in HS2’s environment, finance, project management, project controls, procurement, digital analytics, asset management and commercial teams.
The programmes are designed to help graduates develop a broad understanding of major infrastructure project delivery. Learners will complete six-month rotational placements, working in different departments across their specialist subject area.
Karen Davis, head of people development at HS2 Ltd, said: “Stepping straight into a role that complements to your studies is every graduate’s dream, and I’m delighted that we’re able to extend this opportunity again this year.
“The sheer scale and significance of HS2 makes it a great place to learn and those who join us will have the opportunity to work alongside some of the very best in the industry, putting them on track for a rewarding future.”
Around 31,000 people are now part of the workforce helping to deliver HS2 and investing in new and diverse talent remains a top priority as HS2 strives to create a lasting skills legacy. New apprentices and graduates join the business each year and to date, 117 graduates have already benefitted from the programme.
Kirsty O’Leary, 24, from Buckinghamshire, joined HS2’s graduate programme after completing a Marketing and Branding degree at Nottingham Trent University. Reflecting on her experience, Kirsty said:
“I joined HS2’s graduate scheme in September 2023 and I couldn’t have wished for a more varied or exciting role. The development opportunities are brilliant, and it’s fascinating to learn how the pieces of the puzzle fit together to build and maintain a new railway of this scale.
“Without doubt, the best part of the role is the diverse range of people and industry professionals you get to meet. Knowledge-sharing is key, and I’ve learnt so much from the people that work here and have invested their time to support early career professionals”
