East West Rail (EWR) has recently announced two new appointments to its operations and technical teams.
Ben Rule, who has been working in the rail industry for over 25 years will be take on the role of railway operations director. He brings to the company substantial experience across many high-profile projects and companies.
“We are very excited to welcome Ben to East West Rail,” said EWR CEO David Hughes. “Ben will play a key role within the company and his proven track record in the rail industry will be invaluable as the company continues to develop and refine its plans.”
Ben will join EWR later this year.
EWR has also welcomed Andrew Went as its new engineering, technical and safety director.
Andrew has a strong and proven track record within the rail industry and is currently head of rail engineering at Arup and a RIA board member.
“We are thrilled that Andrew is joining our team,” David said. “This is an exciting time for East West Rail and Andrew’s unparalleled experience will be vital as we continue to develop and refine our plans to reconnect Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge.”
Andrew will begin work on EWR in the Spring. He will lead the company’s design work as it prepares for its upcoming Statutory Consultation and subsequent DCO submission.
East West Rail will connect communities between Oxford, Milton Keynes, Bedford and Cambridge, supporting sustainable economic growth in the area. The new railway would make it easier to reach jobs, education, public services and days out with family and friends.
As one of Britain’s most significant transport projects, East West Rail has the potential to boost the local economy by £6.7 billion per year by 2050.
