RATP and Nokia have successfully trialled a 4G LTE network on Line 14 of the Paris Metro.
It is believed to be the first time a 4G LTE system has been trialled on an automated metro line.
A 4G LTE system was installed on one of the line’s trains to run all of its operational communications equipment – systems which normally require a combination of Wi-Fi, digital radio and 3G/4G wireless networks.
The trial was completed under the R&D SYSTUF (SYStème Télécom pour les Transports Urbains du Futur) project.
The tests showed that a 4G LTE system was capable of simultaneously processing data for CBTC train control, CCTV, radio, passenger information and maintenance monitoring services.
