A woman who shouted racist abuse at a man as they travelled on the Tube has been convicted of racially aggravated intentional harassment after an investigation by British Transport Police.

Jacqueline Woodhouse, 42, of Romford, pleaded guilty to the charge at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 1 May.

The court heard how Woodhouse made the racially-offensive comments on a Central line Tube train between St Paul’s and Mile End during the evening of Monday, 23 January 2012.

The victim filmed the incident and posted the footage on YouTube.

BTP Detective Constable Steve Ajayi, the investigating officer, said:

“Detectives were made aware of the video on YouTube the following day and immediately launched an investigation. Officers arrested Woodhouse two weeks later after she handed herself in at Romford Police Station.

“We treat all allegations of racism on the London Underground network very seriously and I would like to thank those members of public who came forward to assist us with this investigation.”

Woodhouse has been bailed to return to Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Friday 29 May for sentence.
