Western Railways has rolled out the first assembled locomotive from its Dahod Loco, Carriage & Wagon workshop in Gujarat.

“The workshop has successfully completed the assembly of WAG-7 class of electric locomotive.  This locomotive is equipped with modern technology of vigilance control device, microprocessor based control and fault diagnostic system, others,” Western Railways said in a statement.

“The cab of the locomotive has crew friendly features such as ergonomically designed driver desk, air-conditioned cabs, anti slip SMC flooring, emergency stop button, etc,” the statement adds.

Mahesh Kumar, general manager and Sunil K Goyal, chief electrical engineer of Western Railway, attended the rolling out ceremony.

These locomotives are normally assembled at Chittranjan Locomotive Workshop (CLW), one of the largest manufacturers of electric locomotives in the world, but for the first time, this work has been assigned to Loco, Carriage & Wagon workshop Dahod.

WAG-7 is one of the most powerful locomotives in Indian Railways today that was built in 1992 by CLW, West Bengal and Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited (BHEL), Madhya Pradesh.

Set up January 1926, the workshop was commissioned after four years for maintenance and overhauls (POH) of locomotives, passenger carriages and freight cars of then Bombay, Baroda and Central India (BB&CI) Railway, as the workshop at Lower Parel, Mumbai was not able to cope with the arising of all the three types of rolling stock.
