Greater Wellington Regional Council has published a list of the operators shortlisted to provide passenger rail services in and around the capital from 2016.
Shortlisted companies include Transdev Australasia Pty Ltd in a joint venture with South Korea’s Hyundai Rotem, Keolis Downer in a joint venture with KiwiRail, and Serco.
Greg Campbell, chief executive of Greater Wellington Regional Council, said: “We plan to select a preferred tenderer around the middle of next year and have a contract signed by the end of 2015. The new rail contract will take effect from July 1, 2016.”
He added: “The new contracts will have a much greater emphasis on providing high quality, affordable services that encourage more people to take the train, bus or harbour ferry.”
