Excavation of the east tunnel for the underground section of Toronto’s Eglinton Crosstown light rail line has been completed.
Tunnelling began from Brentcliffe Road in September 2015. Two pairs of tunnel boring machines (TBMs) are being used to construct the underground section of the 19-kilometre line.
In total, more than 26,000 precast concrete tunnel segments have been installed to create the tunnel lining. Eglinton Crosstown and Metrolinx have produced a video showing the final segments being installed in the east tunnels between Brentcliffe Road and Yonge Street.
Due to open in September 2021, the line will include 25 stops, with connections to subway and Go Transit lines.
