Velaro under test in the Netherlands

Listen to this article

NS and Siemens have completed the first tests of Eurostar’s new e320 train on the Dutch rail network.

Eurostar plans to launch direct services between Amsterdam Central and London St Pancras in 2017 and has now begun testing its new fleet on the Dutch HSL-Zuid.

Over the next couple of years, Eurostar will be introducing a total of 17 new e320 trains, which are derived from Siemens’ Velaro platform. The trains are already in use between London and Paris.

The new vehicles will allow Eurostar to operate a direct service to Amsterdam Central, calling at Schiphol Airport and Rotterdam Central, for the first time.
