A Covid-19 outbreak has occurred at Manchester Piccadilly train station, with 11 staff testing positive and dozens of their colleagues now self-isolating. Avanti and Network Rail are the main employers for the station and rail staff affected.

Commenting on the situation, TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes said: “Our thoughts are with our members and other Avanti staff who may have contracted Covid or who are self-isolating and waiting for test results.

“Our union’s view is very clear: rail bosses must have zero tolerance to the propagation of this deadly virus, whatever that takes. Lives must come first.”
