Tube line suspended after train hits ‘obstruction’

A London Underground train has ‘hit an obstruction’ on the Bakerloo line which has caused severe delays.

Transport for London said the line has been suspended between Piccadilly Circus and Elephant and Castle due to an obstruction in the tunnel at Embankment.

The rest of the line is facing severe delays.

TfL said nobody was injured and the tunnel ‘had not collapsed’.

The RMT reported that there had been a ‘partial tunnel collapse’ but London Underground denied these reports and said something ‘may have fallen off the tunnel wall’.

Engineers are currently working to work out what happened.

Nigel Holness, LU’s operations director, said:

“There is no tunnel collapse in the Bakerloo line, nor is there any flooding or any injuries. It is wrong and irresponsible to suggest otherwise.”
