Trenitalia opens Verona maintenance depot

Listen to this article

Trenitalia has opened a new maintenance depot in Verona that will oversee work on Italy’s regional train fleet.

The €5 million site features two electrified 365-metre tracks and will, according to the operator, reduce downtime and allow Trenitalia to add two extra services a day.

The Verona depot will service Trenitalia’s Vivalto, Doppio piano and Media Distanza trainsets for Italy’s Veneto Region.

Regional Director of Veneto Trenitalia Mary Giaconia opened the new facility alongside Veneto transport official Renato Chisso.

The Verona site is one of three being built in the Veneto region. In November, another depot will open in Mestre outside Venice that will maintain TAF commuter EMUs and the new ETR 340 FLIRT fleet ordered by the Veneto region from Stadler and AnsaldoBreda.
