It brings a whole new meaning to the word strike in public transport. Over the weekend, 27 teams from 17 different countries competed to be crowned Europe’s top tram drivers.
Drivers competed across five different events, including tram bowling, to decide which European city has the best tram operators.
The fifth annual European Tramdriver Championship (Tram-EM) was held in Berlin – the first time the city has hosted the event – at BVG’s Siegfriedstr depot.
This year’s competition was won by Budapest, who took home the honours at the very first event in 2012.
Competitors included the defending champions Rotterdam, the hosts Berlin, Barcelona, Bergen, Birmingham, Brussels, Debrecen, Dresden, Florence, Frankfurt, Gothenburg, Helsinki, Innsbruck, Krakow, Leipzig, Lyon, Madrid, Oradea, Ostrava, Paris, Porto, Prague, Stockholm, Stuttgart, Tenerife, Vienna and Zurich.
The 2017 event will be held in Santa Cruz, the Canary Islands.
