Thiess is the main constructor on the successful TrackStar Alliance which is celebrating the signing of the $475 million Darra to Springfield Transport Corridor Stage 2 Richlands to Springfield Project.

This vital piece of public transport infrastructure is a boost for growing South East Queensland.

The announcement of the project was made by the Queensland Government in February 2011, with the terms of the contract signed in November.

As the main contractor on TrackStar Alliance, the net contract value to Thiess is $285 million.

Managing Director Bruce Munro said Thiess is delighted to be partnering with Queensland Rail, Aurecon and AECOM on the project.

“Thiess is honoured to be a part of delivering sustainable transport options to this growing region,” Mr Munro said.

Thiess will play an integral role in the delivery of civil works including the construction of two new state-of-the-art stations, Springfield and Springfield Central.

Another feature of the project is a 900 metre long, 15 metre high viaduct which will span the Logan Motorway Interchange at Carole Park.

Queensland Rail, which is both the client and a partner within the Alliance, will draw on its unrivalled expertise to deliver the track and signalling systems on this 9.5 kilometre section.

Thiess, Queensland General Manager, Jason Spears said innovation played a major role in TrackStar’s successful bid.

“Our design partners have come up with smart and effective solutions that allow for the timely and cost effective delivery of this project,” Mr Spears said.

This dual track passenger rail line is scheduled for completion in 2013. Upon completion, the extension of the rail network will provide significant relief on the Centenary Highway during peak periods.
