Test running on Strasbourg tramway southern extension

Listen to this article

Test trams are now running on a southern extension of Strasbourg’s line A tramway.

A period of test operation is underway on the two-kilometre extension between Illkirch and Graffenstaden ahead of the start of full commercial service this spring.

As well as the work on line A, Strasbourg’s transport body, Compagnie des Transports Strasbourgeois (CTS), is extending line D towards Kehl in Germany, which includes a new bridge over the river Rhine.

In 2014, CTS ordered an extra 12 trams for the city’s fleet. The new vehicles, which are scheduled for delivery this summer, will operate on both extensions.
