Talks aimed at solving the on going dispute between the RMT and London Underground have ‘broken down’.

The organisation ACAS held the talks in a bid to resolve the row over the sacking of a RMT driver member.

The RMT said that ‘unfortunately, management refused point blank to even discuss re-employing Arwyn’.

An interim hearing judge suggested a tribunal was ‘likely’ to find the driver at the centre of the dispute, Arwyn Thomas, was dismissed for his union membership.

Results of Arwyn’s Employment Tribunal are expected at the end of this month.

Strikes are still set to go ahead, beginning this Sunday at 9pm.

A spokesperson for the RMT said:

“LU stated that even if the Employment Tribunal found 100% in Arwyn’s favour, they still would not guarantee to reinstate him.

“Therefore, we have no option but to go ahead with our strike action to defend our longstanding rep and activist.

“RMT will urge Boris Johnson to intervene directly to stop LUL holding Londoners to ransom in its irrational drive to undermine RMT and trade unionism on the Underground.”
