Canada is a gargantuan landmass littered with lakes, mountain ranges and stunning vistas, but at 4,430km wide it’s not a country that lends itself to coast-to-coast rail vacations. And yet the Vancouver, British Columbia, to Halifax, Nova Scotia route remains a popular way to see the country.
For photographer Jeff Friesen, these trips where ‘the journey really is the destination’ were the inspiration for a cross-country train excursion of a different kind.
Armed with a specially-made two-inch tall model of a 1955 streamliner called ‘The Canadian’, Jeff went across the country snapping the vintage train’s journey.
On his website, Jeff said: “My own cross-country exploration is done by taking the train, but not in the usual sense… I carry the train rather than it carrying me. It fits into a shopping bag from Mountain Equipment Co-Op.”
