RATP has inaugurated Ile-de-France’s T7 tram line.

On November 16, Jean-Paul Huchon, president of STIF, Pierre Mongin, president of the RATP and Jérôme Wallut, managing director of Alstom Transport France officially launched the new line from a depot in Vitry-sur-Seine.

The new system, which operates between Villejuif (Val de Marne) and Athis-Mons (Essonne), holds additional significance for manufacturer Alstom which delivered its 1,500th Citadis tram to the network.

The new line includes 18 new stops and will be served by a fleet of 39 trams, which will be split between T7 and T8.

Alstom has delivered 19 new trams so far – each of which has a capacity of 200 passengers – in an order which includes an option for another 31 vehicles.

Trams will initially run at six minute intervals, however, that is expected to fall to four minutes once a planned extension to regional RER services at Juvisy-sur-Orge station is completed in 2018.
