Swedtrac RailServices, part of Knorr-Bremse, has been awarded a contract to refurbish the interiors of SJ’s tilting train fleet.

The project, which has been valued at over a billion Swedish krona, is part of a wider effort to refurbish and re-engineer the Swedish operator’s X2000 fleet.

SJ say the new interiors of the 36 trains will increase seating capacity by 15 per cent and will be more “flexible, operationally cost effective and reliable”.

The interior overhaul will be carried out in Tillberga, a 20-minute drive from the city of Västerås.

The SEK 3.5 billion project also includes technical upgrades to the trains. ABB is supplying new power conversion and control systems and an updated passenger information system.
