VINCI Construction, in partnership with Spie Batignolles TPCI and Spie Foundations, has been awarded a €496 million to build a new underground station and adjacent tunnels for the extension of RER E in Paris.
The project will be delivered by VINCI Construction subsidiaries VINCI Construction Grands Projets, Dodin Campenon Bernard, Soletanche Bachy France and Botte Fondations.
La Défense is one of three new stations being built for an extension of the RER E, which will travel west from the current RER E terminus at Haussmann Saint-Lazare.
The Eole project includes the construction of an 8-kilometre tunnel, which will link Haussmann Saint-Lazare with underground stations in Porte Maillot and La Défense.
Due to be commissioned in phases between 2020 and 2022, the line will ultimately extend the RER E by a further 47 kilometres from a new station at Nanterre-La Folie along existing lines to Mantes-la-Jolie station.
Preliminary works will begin this summer and the station is due to be completed in 2021. VINCI Construction has described it as a “highly technical project”, which will have 700 workers on site at the peak of its construction.
