The Czech Republic’s Škoda Transportation has established a new US subsidiary as part of a planned expansion into North America.
“I believe that we have a great chance to succeed not only in the US but also in Canada, ” said the chairman of the board of Škoda Transportation, Thomas Ignačák.
The company has already supplied trams and trolleybuses to the US, but Škoda said its ambition was to create a “full-fledged US base”.
The subsidiary will be headed by Scott Ellis, a former electrician in the US Navy.
Škoda Transportation is active across Europe. Last year, it expanded into Finland after it acquired a controlling stake in the country’s only domestic rolling stock manufacturer, TransTech.
