Siemens has been awarded a contract to install ETCS Level 1 signalling equipment on around 380 kilometres of railway connecting Samsun and Kalin.
The new system is due to be commissioned in 2017 on the main line route, which connects the Port of Samsun on the Black Sea with Kalin in Central Anatolia.
Siemens says its signalling solution will allow the maximum line speed to be increased from 70 km/h to 120 km/h, reducing journey times between Samsun and Kalin from nine to five hours.
As well as supplying electronic interlockings, point machines and new level crossing and communications systems, Siemens will also fit-out the line’s operations control centre in Samsun.
Siemens has already supplied ETCS signalling on the main line between Bandirma to Menemen and the high-speed line between Konya and Ankara. Siemens technology is also in use in the Marmaray Tunnel, which runs under the Bosphorus between the European and Asian sides of Istanbul.
