The last of five trainsets ordered by Brightline, Florida’s new intercity train operator, is making the journey cross-country from Siemens factory in Sacramento.

BrightRed is the last of the trains to be delivered for Phase 1 of the Brightline network, which will link Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach. Phase 2 will later extend services to Orlando.

Each train consists of two diesel-electric locomotives and four carriages.

The 3,052-mile journey from Siemens manufacturing site in Sacramento will take in eight different states.

In a statement issued in March, Brightline said it had planned to launch the service in September. With testing underway, the operator now hopes to begin revenue service later in the year.

Brightline chief executive Dave Howard said: “The voyage of BrightRed across the U.S. is an exciting milestone as we gear up to launch service later this year.”

He added: “The five trainsets represent thousands of hours of dedication from the Brightline teammates who designed and oversaw the assembly to the 1,000 people who built them in California and the 40 suppliers throughout the country that manufactured components.”
