An order of eight locomotives from the European Locomotive Leasing company has seen the number of commissioned Siemens Vectrons pass the 500 mark.

In total, 507 of the electric locomotives have now been ordered for freight and passenger service, the first one being delivered back in 2012.

The new locomotives will be built at Siemens’ Munich-Allach plant and leased to Czech Railways for passenger service on the Prague-Berlin route.

Vienna-based European Locomotive Leasing is currently Siemens’ biggest customer for Vectrons.

Siemens Mobility Division’s CEO Jochen Eickholt said: “This milestone highlights the success story and reliable service of our Vectron locomotives throughout Europe.

“We’ve already convinced 31 customers in 14 countries with our flexible platform and customer-tailored equipment packages.”

The Vectron locomotives are currently certified to operate in: Austria, Bulgaria, Croatia, the Czech Republic, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Poland, Romania, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Sweden, Switzerland and Turkey.
