The board of the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) has issued a request for proposals as it looks to find a contractor to build its OC Streetcar light rail system.
As well as inviting contractors to register their interest, the board selected an architect, RNL Interplan, to design the system’s stops and announced it had reached agreements with the cities of Santa Ana and Garden Grove to help fund the design phase.
Due to open in 2020, the 6.6-kilometre OC Streetcar network will travel west from the Santa Ana Regional Transportation Center to a new station in Garden Grove.
In February, federal funding was confirmed for the project, which will see six trams an hour in each direction.
The project is estimated to cost around $289 million and construction is scheduled to begin towards the end of next year.
