Santa is coming to help Rail Aid once again, changing his reindeer for trains, light rail, and cable cars!
Santa is set to give his reindeer a well-earned rest in the run up to the big day and let the train, light rail and cable cars take the strain on behalf of Rail Aid 2022.
This year to support Rail Aid, there are three events for children and adults alike to get into the festive spirit and raise money for Railway Children.
- A Santa Express special will be run by SouthEastern on Sunday 18th December. Santa will be joined by special elves from the Kent Community Rail Partnership, the special service will leave Maidstone at 11.28 and travel along the Medway Valley Line to Strood before doubling back via Paddock Wood and returning to Maidstone by 13.05.
- DLR Santa’s Grotto – Santa will be in his grotto at Tower Gateway DLR station from 1-24 December. Come and meet Santa and his helpers, explore his home by London’s DLR, take a photo and receive a very special gift from the man himself. There is also the opportunity for little ones to have their face painted by an artist, make “magical” reindeer food for Santa’s helpers and take part in the DLR Christmas Rescue!
- The IFSCloud Festive Cable Cars are back again this year and will run from 16 to 27 December. Get into the festive spirit at the cable car terminals, be greeted with a hot drink and a mince pie for the adults and a wonderful winter activity pack for the children and festive story to entertain in the queue before boarding a private, specially wrapped cabin and enjoying a non-stop round trip across the River Thames. Santa’s helpers will be on hand to give all the children a special, sustainable gift.
“These festive family events were a huge success last year generating lots of Christmas cheer and fun,” said Railway Children’s Group Director of Fundraising, Jack Miller. “We are thrilled this year we have support from across the railway to bring a range of festive events and grateful that once again that the industry’s has come together to raise funds to help us reach vulnerable children and families around the world.”
