Metrovagonmash says it has completed the delivery of 27 new diesel trains to Serbia a year ahead of schedule.

Costing US $100 million, the new two-car trains are part of a contract signed in 2014 between Russian President Vladimir Putin and the President of the Republic of Serbia, Tomislav Nikolich, to modernise Serbia’s rail network.

The project is being delivered by Russian Railways’ global engineering business, RZD International.

The first four standard-gauge DMUs were delivered in January. They went into passenger service between Belgrade and Vrshats the following month.
