Renfe announces shortlist for rerun high-speed train tender

Listen to this article

Alstom, Bombardier, CAF, Siemens and Talgo have been shortlisted in a rerun tender to supply up to 30 high-speed trains for Spanish operator Renfe.

The deadline for submissions had been in May, but the competition was restarted following an appeal by Bombardier over a clause in the documentation requiring a certain proportion of the construction to be carried out in Spain.

Bombardier’s complaint was upheld by the Central Administrative Tribunal of Contractual Appeals (TACRC) and a new deadline was set for July 29.

Five manufactures have now been shortlisted to supply and maintain 15 high-speed trains for Renfe, with an option for up to 15 additional trains.

Renfe has specified vehicles capable of speeds of 320 km/h, with a capacity for at least 400 seats. The trains will have passenger infotainment and Wi-Fi.

The contract is expected to be awarded in October.
