Architects Foster + Partners and Juan Cabanelas have released designs for the refurbished and extended Ourense FFCC Station in Galicia, Spain.

The existing railway line is due to be upgraded for high-speed services and the re-designed station reflects the expected increase in passengers.

Two new platforms will be constructed, the nearby bus station will be relocated closer to the station and a 300-space underground car park will be built, creating a new transport interchange in the process.

A new public plaza will be installed at the front of the station and a pedestrian walkway over the tracks will replace an existing underpass.

Foster + Partners said that an “intuitive path” through the station will be made.

Work to develop the station will be financed by infrastructure manager Adif Alta Velocidad, the Government of Galicia and the European Regional Development Fund.

High-speed trains are expected to come to Galicia from 2019 once the stretch between Pedralba de la Pradería (Zamora) and Taboadela (Ourense) has been completed.
