NTV and Alstom finalise Pendolino order

Listen to this article

Italy’s high-speed rail open access operator NTV has confirmed a €460 million order for eight new Pendolino trainsets from Alstom.

The seven-car trains will join NTV existing fleet of AGV high-speed trains, which operates Italo services.

The order, which includes a 20-year maintenance agreement with Alstom, had been announced by NTV earlier this month.

Built in Italy, the Pendolino units will have a maximum speed of 250 km/h and will operate across both the high-speed and conventional rail network.

The exterior design will be based on Alstom’s Avelia range of Pendolino trains, similar to Trenitalia’s ETR 600 electric tilting trains.

The first vehicles are due to be delivered to NTV in 2017.
