NS shortlists manufacturers for intercity EMU order

Listen to this article

NS has shortlist four manufacturers to supply a new fleet of intercity EMUs.

Alstom, Bombardier, Siemens and Stadler have moved through to the final stage of bidding for a contract to build a new generation of 200 km/h intercity trains.

The new trains are expected to start going into service from 2021.

The tender for new long-distance train sets followed the collapse of the V250 project.

As well as new trains, NS is extensively modernising its existing fleet. First generation VIRM double-deck cars are currently being overhauled and will soon return to traffic.
