NS International has reported a 10 per cent increase in ticket sales in the first quarter of this year.

The international arm of Dutch rail operator NS said the figures represented a recovery following a decline in passenger numbers in the first part of last year in the aftermath of the Paris and Brussels terrorist attacks.

NS International sold around 770,000 tickets in the first three months of the year, with a larger proportion of them now being bought online.

Additional services have recently been introduced to meet any immediate demand for international rail connections.

Thalys has begun operating one of its morning services from Amsterdam to Lille in multiple to add an additional Paris connection. The two trains uncouple at Brussels-Midi/Zuid with half continuing on to Paris and the other half to Lille.

ICE International has also doubled the length of its morning service from Amsterdam to Frankfurt and Basel. This was introduced following the cancellation of Deutsche Bahn’s City Night Line service at the end of 2016.
