Budapest’s BKK has put the first of its new Urbos 3 CAF trams into passenger service.
The longer variation of the new vehicle stretches for almost 56 metres, eclipsing the record for the world’s longest tram set by Budapest’s Combino Plus vehicles.
It’s the first of 47 units being supplied by CAF over the course of the next 12 months.
The new fleet will consist of 35 shorter trams of 34 metres, which will operate on line 3, and 12 longer vehicles.
BKK placed an order for 37 low-floor Urbos 3 trams in 2013. The order included an option for 87 additional vehicles, part of which has already been exercised.
