New trains and CBTC signalling for Brussels Metro

CAF has confirmed an order from Société des Transports Intercommunaux de Bruxelles (MIVB/STIB) for 43 new metro units.

The framework order will cover a 12-year period and includes options for up to 47 additional trains.

CAF will begin delivering the trains in 2019 to support a wider modernisation of the Brussels Metro. Initially the new trains will operate using the existing signalling system before adopting a new CBTC system, which is being provided by Ansaldo STS.

Ansaldo STS will be implementing the system on lines 1 and 5, 2 and 6.
