Network Rail awards GWML signalling and power supply contracts

Listen to this article

Network Rail has awarded signalling and power supply contracts for the final phase of its Great Western Main Line (GWML) upgrade between Reading and Paddington.

Alstom has been awarded a £79 million contract to develop and install a new interlocking solution for the final stage of the GWML resignalling project between Reading and Paddington station.

The project will include the renewal of the existing interlocking and some track remodelling, said Alstom. Work is due to be completed by the end of next year.

The train control system is also an integral part of the Crossrail project, which will see trains switching from CBTC to ETCS signalling west of Paddington.

In a separate award, Amey has won an £11 million contract to upgrade the signalling power supply system between Paddington and Hayes & Harlington. Both contracts were awarded under existing framework agreements.
