Negotiations complete on Forrestfield Airport Link contract

Listen to this article

The Government of Western Australia has completed negotiations with a Salini Impregilo – NRW joint venture to build Perth’s Forrestfield Airport Link.

Negotiations have been ongoing since the joint venture was announced as the preferred bidder in February.

Preliminary works are already underway and the link is due to open in 2020.

The 8.5-kilometre Forrestfield Airport Link, the majority of which will be underground, will create a spur off the Midland Line at Bayswater Junction, linking the airport with Perth’s commuter rail network.

The joint venture will construct the 8-kilometre twin-bore tunnel and three new stations. The A$1.176 billion contract also includes maintenance of the route for 10 years.

Premier Colin Barnett said: “This is a huge milestone on the path to delivering this project, which will change the face of Perth’s eastern corridor and give people direct access to the airport by public transport.

“It’s the biggest expansion of the city’s rail system since the Mandurah rail line was completed.”
